January 6 does not come as a surprise as the results of the most recent US elections revealed in an alarming manner how divided the US is as a country. We cannot deny the role social media has played in creating more division through its manipulative algorithms in order to make profit. The results have fostered hate and division over unity, and yesterday made this evident.
It is a heartbreak.
We must respect democracy to move forward as a country. Yesterday’s assault on our democracy is a sign that there is so much work to be done to foster empathy, kindness, respect, quality education, diversity and inclusion.
Change is not just in what we say but in what we do.
